It’s a movie night + pajamas-in-bed kinda time, especially since the dreamy monsoon weather makes it hard to step out of the comfort of your warm and cozy bed! Who doesn’t need the accompaniment of tasty snacks & Popcorn Flix to go with! This time around though, switch up the butter-laden, salty popcorn with our very own local, homegrown Makhana (Fox nuts).
Start drooling in 3,2,1.
1. Toss some fluffy makhana in a pan and sauté them with DESI GHEE (yes, you read that right G(L)HEEEEE!)Â
2. Add some pepper, chilies, peanuts, and a dash of Himalayan pink salt.
3. Sit back and keep the party poppin’
You won’t believe how great they taste and are gluten-free at the same time!
Can you believe that makhanas are :
-
Ancient Superfoods
-
Rich source of antioxidants, magnesium, and iron
-
Very good for healthy kidneys and spleenÂ
-
Devoid of Fat
-
Great source of protein
-
Promotes a healthy weight
And the list continues! We wish #PopcornProtein was a real hashtag, but on the contrary, it does not contain Protein and can be quite a Calorie-fic affair!
Similarly, they need to be doused with butter to pop into Popcorn. They do not fluff up and remain uncooked if butter is insufficient. Now who would want that? So you end up adding more butter and saying goodbye to those hard-to-maintain mindful eating habits you’ve been following throughout the week! They top the charts when it comes to Saturated Fat content as well.
Movie Nights have now found a new companion- and they are our slow-roasted Makhanas! Movie + Makhana = Mmmmm!
